What is OPV ?

Organic Photovoltaics (OPV) is a next-generation photovoltaic technology that uses organic semiconductor materials to convert light energy into electricity.

Different from conventional silicon-based solar cells, OPV offers unique advantages including flexibility, lightweight design, tunable transparency and colors, and efficient energy harvesting under low-light conditions. These features enable new applications beyond traditional photovoltaics.

The active layer of OPV consists of organic donor and acceptor semiconductor materials. When exposed to light, excitons are generated and separated into electrons and holes. Under the built-in electric field, holes and electrons migrate toward opposite electrodes, and are ultimately collected by the anode and cathode to generate photocurrent and photovoltage.

OPV can be manufactured through roll-to-roll printing.
